I really fell in love with this card. There is something about a beautiful Christmas card that brings you right back to the true meaning of the season, and this one did exactly that for me. Of course, I had to “Lisafy” the paper piecing technique a little bit. Instead of using a contrasting color for the framework, I glued the base frame directly onto the card so it almost disappears into the design. Then I cut the die again from 130# cardstock and adhered those pieces behind each of the stitched sections before placing them back into the openings. That little extra step completely changed the look. Every individual piece is slightly raised, giving the entire background dimension without taking anything away from that gorgeous Nativity scene. It is subtle when you first look at it, but once you see it—you SEE it! This is exactly why I love a good die. You can look at it one way, turn the technique around a little, and suddenly you have something completely different. And yes, it takes a little more time…but you know me. That’s never stopped me before. That’s why they call it a hobby! If you have been thinking about trying my paper piecing technique, this is a wonderful die to start with. The pieces are manageable, the stitched detail is beautiful, and there are so many different ways you could use it.
