About this Project
I created this paper piecing technique probably 15 years ago, and if you know me, you know I love a good puzzle. The more pieces, the better! The idea is pretty simple. Instead of leaving the framework of the die as-is, I cut it in another color and then place every individual piece back into the design. Yes, you could just put patterned paper behind the framework and call it done…but where’s the fun in that? I’m going for the “How did she do that?” reaction. Although I also get plenty of “You have way too much time on your hands.” Funny thing is, those are usually the same people who follow it up with, “But I’d love to get one!” For years I taught this technique using the perfect beginner die. Then, of course, after I had everyone hooked…the die was discontinued. Well, I think I finally found our new go-to die for learning paper piecing! The framework is thin enough to give you that beautiful finished look, but the individual pieces are still a manageable size to pick up, glue and fit back into place without questioning all of your life choices. If you’ve looked at paper piecing before and thought, “Nope, too many little pieces,” this might be the die that changes your mind. And if you’re already one of my fellow puzzle-loving, tiny-piece-gluing people…you know exactly why I love this technique so much. Fair warning: once you start putting those little pieces back in, it’s pretty darn addictive.
